History

The School of Banking and Insurance was established within Marmara University by the Decision of the Council of Ministers No. 95/7044 on July 4, 1995, and is the first 4-year school providing education in the field of Finance in Turkey. The School, which admitted its first students with the ÖYS exam in 1996, has only accepted students on a departmental basis through the ÖYS exam since 1998. The school had its first graduates in 2000.

Providing education in four departments: Banking, Capital Markets, Insurance and Actuarial Sciences, the School trains qualified experts and managerial candidates with theoretical and practical knowledge for the sector. Departments generally offer basic courses (such as economics, finance, business administration, mathematics and law) in the first two years, and sectoral specialization courses in addition to these courses in the last two years. For this reason, courses are given by a distinguished academic staff who have a say in their fields, as well as experienced experts in the financial sector.

Before graduating, students can optionally do an internship so that they can get to know the sector, use their knowledge in the sector to identify their deficiencies, and improve their relations with the sector.

By the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette dated 08.03.2022, Marmara University School of Banking and Insurance was closed and the Faculty of Financial Sciences was established instead. Our faculty is the first and only Faculty of Finance in Turkey that provides undergraduate education in the field of finance.
